Purpose Statement

Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution (KMCI) seeks to ensure public and staff safety; to provide for the custodial needs of inmates until such time as they are properly released or transferred; to motivate inmates to develop skills that will prepare them to contribute to the community upon release; and to work cooperatively within the institution, with the Department as a whole, and with the public in order to guarantee institution practices consistent with professional, community, and correctional care standards.

Institution Information

KMCI is located adjacent to Kettle Moraine State Forest in Sheboygan County approximately 10 miles west of Plymouth and 17 miles southeast of Fond du Lac.  The facility was originally opened in 1962 as Kettle Moraine Boys School, before converting to Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution, a medium-security facility for adult males, in 1974.  The transformation to an adult institution has included the addition of new buildings and security enhancements to ensure the safety and security of the public, staff, and inmates.
KMCI has a dedicated staff that has always provided fresh, innovative ideas to the DOC.  In September 2001, Kettle Moraine hosted the first inmate job fair ever held inside a Wisconsin correctional institution.
