The Department of Corrections Research Review Committee reviews all unsolicited research proposals which include employees and persons in our care as research subjects.
Researchers should review Executive Directive #36 before submitting a request to the Research and Policy Unit for consideration.
Requests must be submitted by e-mail to DOCResearchRequest@wisconsin.gov.
Forms that Must be Submitted with all Research Requests:
- Researcher's Request for Confidential Records or Human Subjects Research (DOC-1198)
- Research Project Agreement (DOC-138)
Additional Required Forms for Researchers who are Current DOC Employees:
- Supervisor Consent for DOC Employee Researchers (DOC-138A)
The Research Review Committee meets bi-weekly or as needed to review research requests, delineate the pros and cons of each requests, and determine whether or not to approve the projects. Each proposal must be approved by the relevant division administrator(s) and facility or regional leadership (Chief, Superintendent, Warden).
Requests must be submitted at least one week prior to the review date. Due to the multi-level review process, decisions may take a number of weeks. Please consider the length of time a review may take when submitting a proposal.
