Conducting Research at DOC

The Department of Corrections Research Review Committee reviews all unsolicited research proposals which include employees, inmates, youth, or offenders as research subjects.

Researchers should review Executive Directive #36 before submitting a request to the Research and Policy Unit for consideration.

The Research Review Committee meets bi-weekly or as needed to review research requests and makes recommendations to the Research and Policy Unit regarding project approval. Each proposal must be approved by the relevant division administrator(s), facility or regional leadership (Chief, Superintendent, Warden), and the director of the Research and Policy Unit. 

Requests must be submitted at least one week prior to the review date. Due to the multi-level review process, decisions may take a number of weeks. Please consider the length of time a review may take when submitting a proposal.

A list of previously approved research projects is available by request.
