You don’t have to go it alone. Depending on the structure of your agency, it will be critical to bring stakeholders and partners into the process of creating your program. Finding community partners who share the same vision and goals will also be crucial to building a successful program. Finding those internal to your organization who can champion the program and devote the time needed to design and implement the program is another key resource.
During our design and implementation phase, we leaned heavily on the few other state models there were. We talked with them about their experience and their program structure to expand our knowledge and begin thinking of how we should design our program. In addition, we relied on our internal staff subject matter experts, treatment providers, and Alkermes (the manufacturer of Vivitrol) to further our knowledge and understanding.
The two key resources you will need to research, design, and implement a successful program are money and people.
